Karl Hawley
North End kept hold of top spot in the table with a 3-1 win at Deepdale against Tranmere where all the action came early on. Karl Hawley gave Preston the lead in the fifth minute with Rovers then finding themselves two goals down just three minutes later when Lewis Neal netted.

As if that wasn't bad enough for the visitors Hawley then grabbed his second goal of the game sixty seconds later. Terry Gornell scoring for Tranmere shortly afterwards with what would only prove to be a consolation goal for Rovers after only eleven hectic minutes had been played in the match.

Morecambe stay second despite losing 3-1 in their home fixture with Wrexham. Wayne Curtis converted his own penalty award for the Shrimps in the ninth minute before Marc Williams's quickfire second-half hat-trick at Christie Park on 53, 59 and 71 minutes ensured that the Red Dragons travelled back to North Wales with all three points.

Burnley are also non-movers, the Clarets remaining in third with a 1-1 draw at Chester. Like the Preston match the goals came early in the proceedings at the Deva Stadium, Chris Holroyd opening the scoring for the home side in the ninth minute before Steve Jones equalised for the Turf Moor outfit seven minutes later.

A mid-table clash between Accrington Stanley and Bury at the Fraser Eagle Stadium saw the Shakers claim a 3-2 victory. Shaun Whalley and Leighton McGivern were on the scoresheet for the home side Reds while Liam Hughes, Jack Dorney and Dale Stephens got the goals for the visitors.

Rochdale claimed only their fifth point of the season with a 3-3 at home to Manchester City in a match played at Dark Lane, the home of Rossendale United FC. Jack Redshaw opened the scoring for the visiting Citizens on 33 minutes, Lee Crooks then equalising for the 'Dale three minutes after the break who then went 2-1 in front when Ben Wharton netted in the 51st minute.

It was certainly an action-packed finish to the game though with three goals coming in the final two minutes. City making the score 2-2 on 88 minutes through Gregory Cunningham before the home side retook the lead courtesy of Rory Prendergast with what looked to be a late winner, only for visiting striker James Poole's injury-time shot to ensure honours finished even.

As we know Carlisle came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at home to Blackpool, the United goals scored by Luke Joyce and Danny Graham while Danny Mitchley and Ben Burgess netted for the visitors. After the postponement of the trip to Manchester City next week Carlisle's next second-string match comes at home to rock-bottom Rochdale on Wednesday the 12th of December in a 7pm kick-off.
