Burnley's Steve Jones
Burnley maintained their 100% record at the top table with a 3-1 win at home to Blackpool in a match played at the Fraser Eagle Stadium, Accrington Stanley FC. A strong Clarets side scoring all their three goals in the first-half through a Rob Turner brace and a single effort from Steve Jones, Blackpool netting what would turn out to be a consolation effort after the break thanks to a goal midway through the half from Ashton Bayliss.

Morecambe also made it two wins out of two to start their first season at this level as they defeated Manchester City 2-1 at Christie Park. The Shrimps going 2-0 up after just twenty minutes following goals from American trialist Ian Etherington and Wayne Curtis. Ashley Grimes pulled a goal back for the visitors after 62 minutes but it was Morecambe who were able to hang on and claim all three points.

Tranmere are the third and last of the 100%-ers as they won 2-1 at home to Rochdale. The visitors took the lead at Prenton Park in the opening ten minutes as a punch clear by Rovers keeper David Crawford hit his own man Michael Johnston and flew back into the Tranmere net. The Wirral side scored twice in the second-half to claim the win though thanks to goals from Terry Gornell on 53 minutes and Danny Holmes on 78.

Chester notched their first win of their second-string season when they defeated Bury 2-1 at the Deva Stadium, ex-City striker Marcus Richardson opening the scoring for the Shakers in the 55th minute. Chris Holroyd levelled matters for the home side midway through the half but it was the 90th minute when City found their late winner through Nathan Lowndes.

Preston also grabbed their opening victory of the campaign after winning 3-2 at Deepdale against Accrington Stanley in a game where all five goals came in the opening 45 minutes. Karl Hawley started off the goal glut on seven minutes with Stanley's Leighton McGivern equalising just 12 minutes later.

Neil Mellor again gave North End the lead after 34 minutes only for McGivern to level matters once more, this time from the penalty spot on 38 minutes. Only two minutes on and Preston regained the lead though, which this time they would never relinquish when Simon Whaley cut in from the left and curled a 20-yarder into the far corner of the visitors net.

United's scheduled game at Wrexham was called off with both sides still being involved in the Carling Cup and that will now take place on Wednesday the 5th of September in a 2pm kick off at the Racecourse Ground. The Red Dragons no longer playing their second-string games at Globe Way, Buckley Town FC as Liverpool reserves have stopped using the Racecourse for their matches.
