Reserves League Round-Up This Week

Blackpool sit at the top of the table after the first week of the second-string season, the Seasiders thumping Wrexham 4-0 at Highbury, the home of Fleetwood Town FC. Scott Vernon got the scoring underway with a 7th minute penalty, Vernon grabbing his second and doubling the lead for the home three minutes before half-time. Danny Mitcheley on 67 and Adrian Forbes after 85 wrapping up an easy win for the Championship side.

Another Championship side though, in Preston, were thumped on opening night, North End losing 3-0 away to Rochdale, in a match played at Dark Lane, the home of Rossendale United FC. The goals for 'Dale coming from Rory Prendergast and Kristian Bowden in the first half, with Kallum Higginbotham completing the scoring after the break.

A strong looking Burnley side won 2-1 at the Regional Athletics Arena on Tuesday night in their away fixture at Manchester City. The Clarets went 1-0 up on 17 minutes with the Citizens finding an equaliser midway through the second half from Donal McDermott. Only another seven minutes went by though before Ade Akinbiyi's header took all three points back to Turf Moor.

In a tight game at the Fraser Eagle Stadium Accrington Stanley defeated Chester with the only goal of the game coming from Robert Grant. Meanwhile Tranmere left it late at the Inn2gether Stadium, Radcliffe Borough FC to seal a 1-0 win away to Bury. Adnan Ahmed setting up Terry Gornell to fire home for Rovers in the 86th minute.

As we already know Carlisle disappointingly lost 2-1 at home to Morecambe, United's goal coming from Luke Joyce with Jon Newby and Paul Lloyd netting for the Shrimps. The Blues have a week off next week due to the Carling Cup with the away game at Wrexham rearranged for Wednesday the 5th of September in a 2pm kick-off at the Racecourse Ground.
