Despite having completed their fixtures last week Oldham won the division on Monday night when Bury, the only team able to catch the Latics, could only draw 2-2 at home to Accrington Stanley. The Shakers holding a late 2-1 lead through goals from Domaine Rouse and Nicky Adams only for the Reds to equalise late on, at the Inn2gether Stadium, Radcliffe Borough, courtesy of a Danny Ventre penalty, Michael Welch having earlier scored for the visitors.

Bury got back to winning ways on Wednesday night though when they defeated Manchester City 4-2 at home, the match again played at Radcliffe's Borough ground. Domaine Rouse again amongst the goals for the Shakers as he bagged a brace with the other Bury goals coming from Marc Pugh and Ryan Hall.

Second-placed Preston won 2-0 at home to Blackpool on Wednesday, Simon Whaley scoring North End's opener in first-half injury time with a close finish while a direct free-kick from Michael Ricketts with 72 minutes on the clock made all three points safe for the Lilywhites. The best chance for the visitors coming just before Preston's second goal when Latvian defender Gaspars Korkss saw a header cleared off the line by Dylan Adams.

Tranmere dropped down to fourth in the table after losing 2-1 at home to Accrington Stanley at Prenton Park. The Reds taking the lead with only seven minutes gone through Joe Skelmerdine only for Rovers to level 20 minutes later as Terry Gornell dusted himself down to convert a penalty after he had been brought down in the visitors box. Midway through the second period though Stanley scored what would turn out to be the winning goal when David Chapman netted from a seemingly offside position.

With games in hand to be fit in before the end of the season Rochdale and Chester played each other twice this week, with each side winning their home match. City winning 3-1 at home on Monday thanks to goals from Lee Steele, Andy Mitchell and a Sean Newton spot-kick. The 'Dale though won the return fixture 1-0 at Dark Lane, Rossendale United on Wednesday night, the only goal of the game scored by Matt Ellis late in the first-half.

As we already know, United defeated Wrexham 4-1 at home on Wednesday afternoon to give themselves a chance of avoiding the wooden spoon at the end of the season. Johann Smith (2), Derek Holmes and Gary Madine were all on the scoresheet for Carlisle while Mike Carvill netted Wrexham consolation goal. The Blues are next in action when they play their final game of the campaign at home to Blackpool this coming Monday afternoon in a 2pm kick-off at Brunton Park.
