The Lilywhites cruised to their third victory on the trot in the second-string league after losing their opening five matches, as they ran out comfortable 4-0 winners against Accrington Stanley on the road at the Fraser Eagle Stadium. The home side should have opened the scoring ten minutes into the second-half though, only for Joel Byrom to see his spot-kick easily saved by North End keeper Chris Neal.

That seemed to kick the visitors into action and they were soon leading 2-0, with both goals scored by ex-Accrington striker Brett Ormerod, one coming from the penalty spot, to take his personal tally to four goals in his last three appearances. North End increased their lead after 80 minutes when Chris McGrail scored from a narrow angle and five minutes from time, substitute Liam Maloney completed the rout for the in-form Lilywhites.

As we know United lost their fourth match in eight second-string games last night, a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Manchester City that sees them drop to fourth bottom in the table. It's been a quiet period in the division recently with only three matches played in the last three weeks, the fixtures get going again next Wednesday though with a full house of matches, Carlisle scheduled to play rock-bottom Chester City in a 2pm kick-off at Brunton Park.
