Gary Madine - 24 goals
Carlisle grabbed their third second-string win in a row, and fifth in their last six games, as they triumphed at the Regional Athletics Arena against a young Citizens side. The Blues couldn't have asked for a better start in the match either as they went 1-0 up inside the first minute, when Gary Madine headed home his 24th goal of the season from a Connor Tinnion corner.

The home side missed a couple of good chances to equalise before they finally did just that with 15 minutes on the clock. Chris Chantler's good run and cross in from the by-line seeing Alex Nimley-Tchuimeni meet the ball at the near-post and send a header across goal and into the back of Grant Carson's net.

The Cumbrians regained the lead just after the midway point in the half though when good work from Shaun Vipond and Madine enabled Stephen Hindmarch to fire a lovely strike, from just inside the penalty area, beyond City keeper Tobias Johansen. That goal seeing the sides go into the half-time interval with United leading proceedings 2-1.

City levelled once more though with just over 20 minutes left in the match when a cross in from the left by Ben Morris saw an under-pressure Zigor Aranalde only manage to head the ball into his own goal. The home side then missing the chance to take the lead for the first time moments later when Robbie Mak fired narrowly wide of Carson's far-post.

United escaped in the 79th minute when City had a goal disallowed before they themselves took the lead in the game for the third and final time with seven minutes to go. Luke Joyce knocking home the rebound after Johansen had saved the initial shot that had come in on his goal. So another victory for the Cumbrians and their next chance to extend that winning run comes next Wednesday night when they play away to Blackpool in a 7pm kick-off.
