Chester City
A second-half header from City youngster Chris Holroyd won the game for the home side but it was another encounter, similar to the match against Preston seven days earlier, that United should have won. The Chester keeper pulling off some excellent saves, and also the woodwork denying the Blues three times throughout the course of the 90 minutes.

Coming out after the break at 0-0, with a strong wind at the backs of the Carlisle players, Simon Hackney missed a good chance for the Cumbrians when he sent a close-range tap-in wide after the keeper had parried his initial shot. The Blues should really have been 3-0 up by that point after not taking some good chances in the opening 45 minutes and that profligacy in front of goal cost them when City scored the only goal of the game shortly afterwards.

A cross came in from the City left-wing where Holroyd was left unmarked to easily nod home at the far-post. United just couldn't find an equaliser and the game ended with Chester inflicting only Carlisle's third of the defeat of the season while earning only their third victory themselves. A very disappointing result all told, especially coming off the back of the Preston game, five dropped points in two matches now leaves the Blues relying on other teams to make mistakes in the run-in if they are to claim the title they should have had wrapped up by now.
