Blackpool Reserves 2-1 United Reserves

Missed chances were apparently the tale of the tape for a youthful Carlisle side as they lost 2-1 away to the Seasiders, who play their home reserve matches at Highbury, the home of Fleetwood Town FC. United understandably, with a busy Easter weekend ahead, only fielding Chris Howarth, Darren, Campion and Luke Joyce from the professional ranks.

The Blues though took the lead with only five minutes on the clock when Andy Cook and Gary Madine combined well, Cook then rounding Latvian Pavels Steinbors in the Blackpool goal before slotting the ball home into an empty net. Carlisle, with Cook, Madine and Stephen Hindmarch all narrowly missing chances to increase their lead paying for their profligacy when the Seasiders levelled after the interval.

Simon Wiles making a pacey run down the right before firing a shot home past Howarth at his near-post, although the United keeper will be feeling that he may have done better with Wiles's effort. Blackpool then scoring their winning goal when John Hills netted with a header after a cross had been whipped into the Carlisle box.

So, only the second defeat in twelve games for the reserves, but their poor early season form makes it look like this loss, coupled with wins for Morecambe and Preston, means any form of title challenge is over. Still, the lads get the chance to return to winning ways next Wednesday night when they face Manchester City in a 7pm kick-off at Brunton Park.
