Chesterfield have signed experienced goalkeeper TONY CAIG on a short term deal, with the paperwork expected to be completed this week. The former Carlisle United, Blackpool, Barnsley and Newcastle United goalkeeper has joined Lee Richardson`s squad to act as back up for Tommy Lee.

The Spireites have been without a back up goalkeeper since Trevor Carson`s return back to Sunderland in January. The 34 year old has recently been with Major League Soccer side Houston Dynamo and will only act as emergency cover for Lee.

Wrexham are on the verge of completing the signing of former Premiership striker MATT JANSEN. The former Blackburn Rovers frontman was at Wrexham's 1-1 draw with Forest Green on Tuesday to cast his eye over the north Wales club. Jansen, 31, has held discussions with Wrexham manager Dean Saunders and has verbally agreed a short-term deal.

York City will part company with DARREN KELLY at the end of the season. Minstermen chief Martin Foyle has informed the Irish defender in advance to help him in his bid to pursue a career in coaching. Blue Square North club Workington have been rocked by the news that midfielder SHAUN VIPOND is set to join an un-named Swedish side. Vipond will be available for Saturday's home game against Hyde United and Tuesday's trip to Stafford Rangers, but next weekend's game at home to Hinckley United will be the 20-year-old's last for Workington as he seeks a new adventure away from Borough Park.

Vipond wouldn't reveal the name of the team he is joining but said the deal was too good to turn down. He said: "This move has been on the cards for a while and I'm really excited about the chance to play in Sweden. I was told a lot about the club and I have seen pictures of the stadium and it all looks very impressive.

"I have really enjoyed my time at Workington. It has been tough playing in the Blue Square North but everyone at the club has been great with me. The manager took a chance on me when Carlisle released me and I thank him for that but this deal is right for me." Vipond only signed for Workington in November after his contract at Carlisle was cancelled, but agreed to join the Scandinavian side earlier this week.

His deal initially runs for three months, with the option for another three months. The Swedish leagues can only run for six months due to the amount of snow that falls there. He said: "I am really looking forward to getting out there and showing what I can do. It is a great opportunity for me, too good to miss. I have always wanted to play abroad and had the chance to move to the USA and New Zealand but the deals weren't right."

Vipond played thirty-six games for Workington, scoring three goals. He said: "I will be sorry to say goodbye to the lads because they have all been great but I have to make sure I look after myself. I am excited about the chance to move on but I'm nervous too. When I return to England in September I don't know what will happen.

"I will want to get back into football at as best level I can. If that means coming back to Workington then so be it but I don't know what the future holds for me." Vipond is not the first Reds` star to join a foreign club this season. In October defender DAN KIRKUP joined New Zealand side Hawke's Bay United.

Struggling Dungannon Swifts have sacked manager JOHN CUNNINGHAM after five months in charge and with just six league matches remaining. Colchester have further boosted their squad ahead of Saturday's big trip to Leicester City by signing forward KARL HAWLEY on loan from Preston North End. 27-year-old Karl becomes the second player to head south from Deepdale this week, after Neal Trotman's loan signing on Thursday afternoon.

Karl has joined on a one month loan spell from North End, following a similar spell for the powerful front man with Northampton Town earlier this season. He signed for Preston in 2007, following a hugely successful spell with Carlisle, where his goals helped fire the Cumbrians up through the divisions. He enjoyed a ratio of a goal every second game during his time at Brunton Park and will be hoping to replicate that strike rate now he has joined up with the U's.

Hereford United have confirmed that Bristol City winger JENNISON MYRIE-WILLIAMS has returned to Edgar Street on loan until the end of the season. The wide-man joined the Bulls at the end of January in the aftermath of Lionel Ainsworth's departure shortly before the close of the winter transfer window, making his debut in the 1-1 draw at Walsall on January 24.
