Former Barnsley defender Paul Reid has become Colchester's third addition of the summer transfer window. The centre half - who can also play a defensive midfield role - left the Tykes after agreeing to cancel his contract on Monday. And, having already shown an interest in the former Northampton Town defender, the U's wasted no time in confirming his signature on Tuesday following a medical.

Weymouth boss John Hollins believes his latest recruit KEVIN SANDWITH will prove to be a key component in his new-look side during the forthcoming campaign. The versatile defender, who can also play in midfield, began his career as a trainee at Carlisle United where he made just three appearances before sealing a switch to non-League Barrow.

St Johnstone are poised to make a decision on whether to sign Rotherham striker DEREK HOLMES. But manager Derek McInnes has decided against signing a Spanish left-back who had arrived on trial, having been recommended by ex-Saint Goran Stanic.

Former Rotherham striker DEREK HOLMES has signed a one-year contract with First Division side St Johnstone. The 29-year-old trained with Derek McInnes' side in Wolverhampton last week and scored in Saints' 2-1 friendly win over Ayr United on Saturday.

Bristol City manager Gary Johnson says RICHARD KEOGH is likely to have played his last game for the club, after the 21-year-old failed to sign a new deal. The young defender is out of contract at Ashton Gate but City are entitled to compensation as he is under 24.

ADAM MURRAY has been named Oxford United captain for the forthcoming Blue Square Premier campaign. The 26-year-old midfielder, who joined the club at the start of the year, takes over the role from Irish centre-back Barry Quinn.

Annan Athletic have made a double raid on Unibond League outfit Workington Reds to sign DEREK TOWNSLEY as player/manager plus defender Alan Inglis. The 35-year-old Townsley was last in Scottish football with Gretna before heading for Workington in January 2007.

Nicky Platt was at Liverpool FC from age 9 until he turned 16, when he joined Burnley as an apprentice, playing for 2 years and making regular reserve appearances. After his release from Burnley he had trials with Carlisle and Accrington Stanley, before joining Stalybridge Celtic.

With appearances mainly in the reserves and on the bench, Nick opted for more first team football by joining FC United, and helping them to promotion. However, he couldn't stay away, and rejoined Stalybridge in the summer of 2008.

Annan Athletic have made four more signings as they prepare for their first season in Division Three. Strikers Grant Parker and Steve Archibald and defender GARY BROWN are all making returns to Galabank. Parker, 24, has signed from Dalbeattie Star, while 25-year-olds Archibald and Brown have been with English amateurs Harraby Catholics.

Bognor Regis are close to agreeing terms with two players that have league experience. The Rocks manager Mick Jenkins said he was hopeful of agreeing terms with the players within the next two weeks. Bognor are at home tomorrow when they host Conference Premier side Stevenage Borough. Jenkins said: "We'll be as near to full strength as we can be against Stevenage. I'll probably give JAMES KRAUSE another chance and it's going to be a big test for The Rocks.

Doncaster Rovers have taken Bristol City centre-back RICHARD KEOGH and Dutch defender Jos van Nieuwstadt on trial. O'Driscoll said: "If we don't [sign Mills], we've looked at three or four centre-halves to give us options."

Keogh and Excelsior's Van Nieuwstadt both featured in Rovers' 2-0 pre-season win at Port Vale on Tuesday, along with an unnamed Spanish player from Real Sociedad. Republic of Ireland Under-21 player Keogh, 21, looks set to leave City after failing to accept a new contract offer.

Hartlepool have named trialists Marcus Haber and JONATHAN FORBES in their squad for Wednesday's game at York. Canadian striker Haber plays for Dutch side Groningen's under-19s and has previously had a trial with Leeds. Kendal Town defender Forbes began his career with Manchester United before linking up with former Preston winger Lee Ashcroft at Kendal.
