Tuesday night's Derbyshire Senior Cup victory over Glapwell was UniBond League Premier Division club Matlock Town's first victory in twelve league and cup attempts and also the first under the tenure of new boss Mark Atkins who was both delighted and relieved.

Atkins is still very much active in trying to add to his squad ahead of the Boxing Day derby at play-off hopefuls Ilkeston Town. He has this week confirmed his interest in Belper Town goalkeeper PAUL PETTINGER, who played under him at both Harrogate Town and Stalybridge Celtic.

Gary Sippetts is a striker who has a number of previous clubs, including Hemel Hempstead Town, Aylesbury United, Staines Town, Chesham United, Berkhamsted Town, St Albans, Barton Rovers and London Colney. And he celebrated with a 4-2 victory over Durham City in the UniBond League Presidents Cup third round tie at the Arnott Stadium. Tait replaces Tom Wade as coach, and director of football Bob Morton reckons the Kingston Park club has come up with a winner.

UniBond League Premier Division club Matlock Town head to Ilkeston Town with a new goalkeeper following PAUL PETTINGER'S move from Belper Town, but that looks as if it might be the only new signing before the Boxing Day derby. Pettinger signed on the dotted line on Tuesday and played for the opening half in Tuesday night's 6-0 friendly win at Teversal which proved to be a useful workout.

Aldershot have chosen to release defender Junior Osborne, but striker JUNIOR MENDES will remain at the club. Mendes, 32, was contracted to the club until the end of the year but will now stay for the rest of the season.
