Workington Hope To Lengthen Cook Loan

Carlisle's Andy Cook
After joining Workington in mid-February, 18-year old Cook, has started two matches and been a used substitute four times for the Conference North Reds. His debut goal for the West Cumbrian outfit coming on the road last night in a 5-0 demolition of free-falling Farsley Celtic.

The Bishop Auckland-born forward, who signed an 18-month professional contract at Brunton Park in early January currently sees his one-month loan spell with Workington about to run out after this Saturday's home game against Hyde United. Reds boss Darren Edmondson is hoping to extend that deal though as he commented last night to BBC Radio Cumbria :

" Andy Cook got his first goal with an excellent little volley. Everybody forgets, you look at him and you don't think that he is 18 but he is only an 18-year old lad and he has just come out of the youth team. Two reserve games, or one and a half reserve games under his belt and tonight I thought that he put himself around brilliantly.

" Some of his diagonal passing with both feet was excellent and then he was strong for his goal. Many centre-forwards would have got pulled down there but he used his strength and volleyed it into the bottom of the net. So hopefully we can keep Andy again but that is out of our hands at the moment, we will have to discuss that as this week goes on and I will talk to Andy about how he feels.

" I am hoping that he is enjoying it at the moment though and I think what we have seen tonight is that he is progressing and he is learning all about this league. I believe that Saturday is his last game, but I would like to have hopefully an agreement in place before then, but again, that is not up to me. "
