John Welsh
The 24-year old played his last game in a Blue shirt today in the 2-0 FA Cup first round replay win at Grays, Welsh coming on as a substitute for Gary Madine in the 79th minute. The later appearance from the bench, after being out all season with a back injury, of Chris Lumsdon being one of the reasons that John has not seen his loan spell extended with Carlisle.

After signing for the Cumbrians on the 27th October from the Premier League Tigers Welsh struggled to make any real impact on the team as he made four starts, one of which came in the original abandoned replay at Grays, and three substitute appearances in his time at Brunton Park. Blues caretaker manager Greg Abbott commenting to BBC Radio Cumbria on the decision to let the Liverpool-born midfielder return back to Hull :

"John is going to go back to Hull now, we have got players fit now and ready. John is a terrific fellow, I have got a lot of time for him, and he has come into the club at a difficult time. We haven't had a bit of trouble with him though, he has come in from a Premier League club, we have left him out, not a problem.

"We have put him on as a substitute in two or three games and he has done a terrific job. I like the lad a lot and the way that he is as a character is very good, he will go back with our best wishes and you never know what might happen later on."
