Timmins previously worked with Carlisle on a part-time basis under then boss Paul Simpson before following Simmo down the M6 to Preston to work in a full-time role. Simon Smith took over the role then at Brunton Park but, with Smith only being at the club on a part-time basis, manager John Ward has been looking for a more permanent worker.

Ward then asking Timmins if he would return to Cumbria to work full-time as United's goalkeeping coach, an offer that Timmins has since accepted. The departure of Timmons from Deepdale has meant that the Lilywhites have brought in former Barnsley, Doncaster and Oldham stopper Andy Rhodes as their new keeper coach.
