Trialist Tomos Takes On Toon Team

The Welsh teenager started his footballing life at Manchester United before being released at the end of his schoolboy years, when he then joined Aston Villa to complete a two-year youth scholarship that started in the summer of 2008. Roberts, who has been capped for Wales at under-16 and under-19 level being let go by the Villians at the end of last season though.

His last game for Villa was in the 2-1 FA Youth Cup final defeat against Chelsea back in early May, and since then he has had pre-season trials at a couple of clubs as he looks for a new team. Left-winger Roberts playing for Doncaster at Askern, and then Hartlepool at South Shields, a game in which he scored twice as the 'Pools won 3-0.
