Thirlwell Stays At Brunton Park

The Blues club captain was offered a fresh 12-month contract by Cumbrians boss Greg Abbott at the end of last season, and today he has finalised the minor details and put pen to paper on that deal. The 34-year old central midfielder, who signed for Carlisle in January 2007 from Derby, now having made 195 appearances and scored seven goals in his six and a half years at Brunton Park.

With father time now not on the former Sunderland man's side though a gradual move into the coaching side of things looking likely to place over the next couple of seasons. Thirlwell already having taken some training sessions with the youth team in the absence of Eric Kinder, and his signing today means that there is just Lee Miller and Matty Robson remaining as out of contract players at Brunton Park.
