A season starting game at Brunton Park for Carlisle had become a regular occurence in recent years, with United at home on the opening day eleven times in the last fourteen years prior to the 2012-13 campaign, the Blues also up overall historically over their 77 league seasons at 41 home games and 36 away matches. This time around it's an away League One fixture for the Cumbrians to start off with however as they make the lengthy trip to Stevenage on Saturday August 18th.

Last season in League One the Blues defeated Boro 1-0 at home and lost 1-0 on the road in two very tight encounters, Peter Murphy scoring the Carlisle winner at Brunton Park while John Mousinho netted the only goal of the game for Stevenage at the Lamex Stadium. Historically United have played Stevenage only twice away from home, the other game between the two sides coming in the Nationwide Conference in the 2004-05 campaign, with Borough again coming out on top, that time courtesy of a 2-1 scoreline.

Away from the opening day United have two games at home over the Christmas period, the Blues at Brunton Park on Boxing Day facing Hartlepool United before following that up with Bury on 29th December. The New Year Bank Holiday game then seeing the Cumbrians on the road at Crewe Alexandra on 1st January. The final game of the season for United being at home though when they face John Ward's Colchester on Saturday 27th April.
