The Cumbrians stretched their lead at the top of the table to six points with fantastic wins on the road against Northampton and Darlington. Recent home victories over Boston and Lincoln have also been put in the bank to catapult the Blues to the edge of automatic promotion with Carlisle hammering home 13 goals in those four games alone.

United also made it through to the final of the Football League Trophy at the Millennium Stadium following a tense two-leg encounter against Macclesfield Town during a month which simply couldn't have been bettered and Simpson told the official club website :

"To win this once award once in the season is great, but to pick it up twice shows just how much we have been doing things right. The club is doing things properly from top to bottom."

Congratulations to Simmo and all the players and let's hope the traditional curse doesn't follow with the big match at Cardiff coming up on Sunday. United avoided that last time however when Simpson picked up the December award on the 5th of January, when two days later the Blues thumped Bury 4-0 at Brunton Park, fingers crossed for the same result against Swansea!!
