After joining United as out on of contract free agent, following his release by Sheffield Wednesday, the American-born defender has now gone on to make 81 starts over the course of two seasons in a Carlisle shirt. The 27-year old former Arsenal man though still waiting for his first United goal, something which would increase his career tally from two to three as he long been a cover man at the back while his side have attacking set-pieces.

Simek now hoping to add to that tally at Brunton Park though after today having inked a fresh one year deal, with an extension clause in that contract for another season on top, presumably that clause being linked to making a certain number of appearances for United in the 2012-13 campaign. Frank pledging his immediate future to the Blues today then means that just Peter Murphy remains of the original eight players offered new contracts at the end of last season, with the Dubliner expected to pen his new deal before pre-season training kicks off on Thursday.
