Manager John Sheridan insists he selects the players that Carlisle United sign - but that David Holdsworth "deals with the politics" around recruiting players.

This month, the Blues confirmed the former Gretna player and coach is helping Sheridan recruit players, but Holdsworth's official role is still yet to be confirmed.

Sheridan, who hopes to bring in a right-sided centre-half on a permanent deal and believes Macaulay Gillesphey can be "a top player", explained that he felt 29-year-old Greek defender Dimitris Kotsonis was hoping to go on to "bigger and better things" after his brief trial.

At the fans' forum tonight at Brunton Park, assistant manager Tommy Wright said he was "disappointed" Reggie Lambe had left and also defended the controversial Checkatrade Trophy.

First-team coach Paul Murray, meanwhile, admitted he felt the Blues needed to get out in the community more to attract fans to Carlisle.
