Northern Counties East League Premier Division club Sutton Town's determined quest for promotion in 2008 got under way this week with the capture of two quality signings. Player-manager Jason Blunt has recruited former Chesterfield, Oldham Athletic and Notts County striker David Reeves, who ended last season as player/assistant-manager at Nationwide North neighbours Alfreton Town.

And also joining the Snipes is 28-year-old midfielder Sam McMahon , who has Premiership experience with Leicester City as well as England semi-professional international honours while with Stevenage Borough, Burton Albion and Hinckley United. He was captain at British Gas Business Southern League Premier Division side King's Lynn last season.

Blunt said: "We hope that between them they will get the goals to earn us promotion to the UniBond League. Last season we had a mainly inexperienced side but next year we won't be lacking in that commodity. These signings show our ambition and potential, and will confirm to our supporters our aim to play the right type of football as we make a push for promotion."

Reeves played 163 times for the Cumbrians, scoring 63 goals in the process, in a three-year spell at Brunton Park after arriving from Notts County for a club record fee of £121,000 in October 1993. The Birkenhead-born striker eventually being sold to Preston North End for £300,000 almost exactly 36 months later.
