Conor Tinnion - two goals
After spending five days training at the Five Lakes hotel complex in Colchester, United finished their week in Essex with a trip around the M25 to Margate. Carlisle boss Greg Abbott again fielding two different teams of eleven in each half of a game in which the Blues coasted through against a cash-strapped Margate side from start to finish.

Evan Horwood for United and the home side's Wayne Wilson exchanged shots over the bar in the opening ten minutes before Cumbrians player/coach Graham Kavanagh curled a free-kick wide from just outside the penalty area with 13 minutes on the clock, Joe Anyinsah then firing narrowly off target four minutes later.

Carlisle did take the lead in the 22nd minute though when good approach play from Scott Dobie and Anyinsah saw Cleveland Taylor's shot well saved by Margate goalkeeper Pat Mullin. The 'Gate stopper though could no nothing to stop Conor Tinnion from following up and firing the ball home into the net.

Two minutes later Lenny Pidgeley was on-hand for the Blues to easily save a Wilson effort only for United to make it 2-0 just after the half-hour mark. Tinnion once more the man in the right place at the right time as he followed up on Anyinsah's backheel from a Taylor ball in, Tinnion then easily finding the target once more.

The home side kept going though and shortly afterwards Lloyd Blackman shot onto the roof of the United net and headed over the bar in a busy spell for Margate. Aaron Lacy then dragging a shot well wide for the 'Gate five minutes before the break, the Hartsdown Park outfit then making a few changes in personnel at the interval, including Mark Beresford taking the gloves from Mullin.

After Tinnion's quick brace in the opening period, Ian Harte, playing at left-back this evening, repeated that feat early into the second-half. Harte on 51 minutes first curling home a delightful 25-yard free-kick into the top corner at pace, before he easily converted a penalty six minutes later, the spot-kick awarded after a Margate defender had handled a Gavin Rothery cross into the box.

Around the midway point in the half new signing Matty Robson and Marc Bridge-Wilkinson both sent strikes wide of the target before Gary Madine made it 5-0 to the Blues with 69 minutes on the clock. A nice move featuring Chelsea-loanee Tom Taiwo, Rothery and Bridge-Wilkinson allowing Madine to smack home a well-placed effort from 18 yards out.

Margate came as close to scoring as they would all night after 77 minutes when a corner into the United penalty area saw a bit of a goalmouth scramble before Blues goalkeeper Adam Collin was able to claim the ball on his line. Another well placed Harte free-kick deflecting narrowly wide for the Cumbrians shortly afterwards before Rothery made it 6-0 on 80 minutes, the 21-year old easily finding the back of the net from the edge of the home box.

Some good defending from the returning Danny Livesey kept Margate out three minutes later, before Bridge-Wilkinson had the last chance of the game, the United playmaker heading off target in the 87th minute from Robson's cross in. The final whistle soon coming on a useful run out for the Cumbrians with the start of the League One season now just three weeks and one day away.
