Offiong Out On Loan To Darlington

Richard Offiong
After signing for Carlisle in August 2009 from SPL side Hamilton for £75,000 the 26-year old has so far failed to show the form that saw him score 43 goals in 106 matches for the Accies, Offiong to date having only netted once in five starts and 12 substitute appearances for United, while also scoring just the once at reserve team level.

Having had a summer loan spell at Swedish side Ostersunds FK curtailed early in mid-May following a ruptured thigh tendon, the South Shields-born frontman is now back to full fitness and he returns to a club where he scored four goals during a nine-game loan spell from Newcastle United in November 2002, Offiong having played the first half of Darlington's 0-0 preseason encounter at Gretna last weekend.

Quakers boss Mark Cooper is hoping Offiong can add some pace to his forward line though as he commented to the Northern Echo :

" Richard is going to sign for us on a month's loan initially. He sort of gives us that real pace that we haven't really got at the top end of the pitch, and gives us the opportunity to stretch teams.

" He is ready to play. He has had an injury from when he was on loan in Sweden at the end of last season. It was a thigh problem but all it stopped him doing was kicking balls in pre-season, otherwise he has done all of the leg work. He looks fit enough.

" His record suggests that he will score goals. It is the same with Liam Hatch and Chris Senior. So, if those three players are in the team then we look like we have goals at our disposal. "
