Neil Edwards Hangs Up His Gloves

35-year old goalkeeping coach Edwards joined up with the Blues at the end of July, Edwards now devoting himself full-time to the world of coaching due to shoulder problems. The Aberdare-born glovesman having been around the lower-league scene for many a year now since joining Stockport from Leeds, where he had been a trainee, in September 1991.

Six years at Edgeley Park followed before he moved on to Rochdale and spent eight seasons at Spotland, Edwards then joining Bury in the summer of 2005. Neil was released by the Shakers in May and linked up with Carlisle as their new goalkeeping coach just before the start of the 2006-07 season.

The Blues looking for a new keeper coach after Dave Timmins, who worked part-time for United last year, took on a full-time role at Preston under Paul Simpson, Timmins replacing Pete Williams at Deepdale who left North End to link up again with new Derby boss Billy Davies at Pride Park.
