Neale McDermott
Former Fulham man McDermott linked up with the Blues on trial in mid-July 2006 with then boss Neil McDonald offering Neale a 12-month deal with the Cumbrians shortly afterwards, in what was a Derek Holmes-type contract seemingly, where if he made a certain amount of appearances in the season then he would get an extended deal at Brunton Park.

McDermott did stay on in Carlisle for another year but it quickly became obvious that he wasn't in manager John Ward's long-term plans. Ward saying, after McDermott had gone on trial at Hartlepool at the start of March :

"I've told Neale that there possibly won't be a new contract for him at the end of the season. Hartlepool asked if they could have a look at him and we are allowing him to pursue his career elsewhere."

Newcastle-born attacking midfielder McDermott leaving Brunton Park this afternoon after making just seven starts and 11 substitute appearances in almost two seasons in Carlisle, although he did score three goals in those games. McDermott having only featured once for the first-team this campaign, as a substitute in the 2-0 home defeat against Coventry City in late August.
