After being released by United boss Greg Abbott at the end of last season, Lewis Neal has got himself another club this afternoon after penning a two-year deal at the Prostar Stadium. Neal having made just fifteen starts, one substitute appearance and scored two goals in just over four months at Brunton Park after signing on a free transfer from Preston in January 2009.

The left-winger was at best patchy at Carlisle and the two things that can be brought to mind quickly about him were a fantastic first 45 minutes on his debut in a 1-1 draw at home to Walsall, as well as a dreadful one-on-one miss in the 1-0 defeat at Huddersfield Town on Easter Monday. Neal is looking to put that spell in Cumbria behind him though as he commented to the official Shrews website :

"I'm lucky to have spent time at such good clubs as Stoke City and at Preston, I finished last season at Carlisle and that is another good club. Coming to Shrewsbury may be seen as a little bit of step down by some but I don't see that, Shrewsbury is a club that could easily be in League 1 at least. That's one of the reasons that I've come here to come and help us to get out of this division.

"I know this is a tough league and there are some very tough places that you have to go too to play. I know that it's not going to be easy by any stretch of the imagination and that we will all need to work really hard to achieve something. With the additions that the gaffer has made to the squad then hopefully that can give us that little extra push."
