Former United boss Neil McDonald
42-year old former Carlisle boss McDonald joins the Red Imps as their new assistant manager after one-time Huddersfield supremo Peter Jackson was handed the number one job at Sincil Bank last week. McDonald being brought in by Jackson to provide coaching assistance to himself and Grant Brown, who was caretaker boss of the Red Imps following the dismissal of John Schofield in the middle of October.

After losing out in the League Two play-offs for a record fifth season in a row Lincoln are struggling desperately this campaign as they currently sit bottom of the entire Football League with just two wins from their opening 14 matches in the division. The Red Imps currently two points away from safety, and their local rivals Grimsby Town, as they look to avoid the drop into the non-league pyramid.

McDonald was sacked by Carlisle in early August after just over one year in the Brunton Park hotseat and he has recently been in Sweden coaching Ostersunds FK, who he saved from relegation during his five week spell at the helm. The 42-year old looking to help Jackson do the same at Sincil Bank as he once more joins a club where the bottom end of the table is more important than the top.
