With Ian Harte on his way out of the club today, Blues boss Greg Abbott has signed the 27-year old Slovakian international as a temporary replacement. Michalik making the move up to Cumbria from Elland Road where he has failed to appear for the Whites this season in their first campaign back at Championship level.

Lubomir came to England originally in January 2007 when he signed for Bolton on a three and a half year deal for an undisclosed fee from FC Senec in his home country of Slovakia. Michalik's first experience of football in this country came with Leeds though as he joined the Yorkshire club on loan for a month in the latter stages of the 2006-07 season, the now 27-year old making seven starts and scoring one goal for soon to be relegated Leeds in that spell.

His loan stay was set to be extended until the end of the season but injuries at the Reebok Stadium meant a recall to Bolton where he would go on to make 13 starts, four substitute appearances and score one goal before eventually signing for Leeds on a permanent basis for a reputed fee of £500,000 on a three and a half year deal in January 2008.

Michalik started off well again at Leeds but has fallen out of favour of Leeds in the last 18 months or so, with the Slovak making 58 starts and 11 substitute appearances, while scoring one goal in his second spell at Elland Road. Internationally meanwhile the 27-year old has played four games for Slovakia and netted a goal against the United Arab Emirates.
