Irishman Long joined the Turf Moor side from Airtricity League of Ireland outfit Cork City during January of this year for a six-figure fee after Burnley had agreed a deal for the centre-half in late November 2009. The 6'2 19-year old signing a three and a half year deal with the Clarets, after making three first-team appearances for Cork following a successful progression through their youth system.

Internationally Long, who can also play as a full-back, has been called up to the Republic of Ireland under-21 squad but has yet to earn his first cap, while in his home country he has also captained Cork`s Football Association of Ireland Youth and Munster Cup winning teams.

Long has yet to be involved in a Burnley matchday eighteen but he did play 68 minutes of a 3-1 pre-season friendly win for MK Dons at St Neots Town this afternoon, the situation there as far as the Dons and Carlisle are concerned being explained by Clarets boss Brian Laws on his club's official website :

"This is an ideal opportunity to get Kevin some first team experience and MK Dons are going to haver a good look at him. Carlisle will also be having a look and hopefully we can get Kevin sorted out with a loan deal that will benefit everyone."
