With Ben Alnwick having been to recalled to Tottenham Hotspur this week at the end of his one month loan spell Blues boss Greg Abbott has moved quickly to get another stopper in for a temporary spell. Krul, the number three choice at St James' Park coming to Cumbria with Abbott seemingly not yet happy with the form of summer signing Ben Williams.

Krul, born in The Hague, signed for Newcastle in July 2005 on a three-year contract from home-city club Den Haag in the Netherlands. The 20-year old made his senior debut against PSV Eindhoven in July 2006, although after being on the bench for Steve Harper six times, with Shay Given out injured, he had to wait until November 2006 to make his full debut. The Dutchman winning the man-of-the-match award for his performance in a 1-0 win at Palmero in a UEFA Cup group game.

Krul though soon requiring two knee cartilage operations that would keep him out for six months until April 2007, the 20-year old then signing a four-year extension to his contract in June of that year. The Hague-born stopper then joining Scottish Premier League side Falkirk, initially on a five-month loan in August, with that then after some excellent performances being extended until the end of the season.

Things started to go a little sour in January 2008 though when he was first sent off away to Kilmarnock before suffering a dislocated shoulder during a Scottish Cup defeat against Aberdeen that resulted in him missing the rest of the season. Krul now linking up with the Cumbrians today on a one-month loan deal that could be extended depending on performance.

Internationally Krul has represented the Dutch u-20 side, after earlier in his career playing in the World u-17 Championships in Peru in September 2005, where he helped the Netherlands finish fourth in the tournament. Krul later being part of the Dutch squad that won the European under-21 Championships in the summer of 2007.
