20-year old Krause is the fourth signing for new Diamonds boss Garry Hill in the close season, Hill having already snapped up midfielder Jon Challinor from fellow Conference side Exeter City, another ex-Carlisle loanee in defender Phil Gulliver from Hereford and midfielder Martin Foster from crisis club Halifax Town.

James only made three starts for United in his six month loan spell with the Blues from Ipswich that eventually saw him let go by Carlisle in early May, those coming in the 2-0 win at Port Vale, 2-1 victory at Brighton and the 5-0 hammering at Swansea City in December. The 20-year old also being an unused substitute on six occasions.

Bury St. Edmunds-born defender Krause initially linked up with the Cumbrians on a two-month loan deal, mainly as cover for Zigor Aranalde and Peter Murphy who were both sitting one match away from serving a suspension on four yellow cards apiece, in mid-November, that temporary transfer later being extended to the end of the season as James looked to earn a permanent deal at Brunton Park.

The 20-year old was recommended to United boss Neil McDonald by Colin Suggett who is the chief scout at Brunton Park, Suggett having held the same position at Portman Road before making the move up to Cumbria in the summer.

Krause had been unable to break into the first team ranks with the Tractor Boys, his only appearance in the Town sixteen coming as an unused substitute in Ipswich's final game of the 2005-06 season, a 2-1 defeat at home to Plymouth Argyle. The teenager was a member of the FA Youth Cup winning side at Portman Road in 2005 and signed a professional contract with the Suffolk outfit in the summer of 2006.
