Now we are into the area semi-final stage Carlisle are one of four League One clubs left in the northern section, with the two sides the Blues wanting to avoid in the draw no doubt being Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday. Tranmere the other team involved after they were reinstated into the competition when Accrington fielded an ineligible player against them in round two, Rovers then going on to beat Bury 1-0 on the road in the quarter-finals.

Down in the southern section of the draw there is only really one big name left with Charlton Athletic still involved, the Addicks featuring alongside Brentford, Bristol Rovers and Exeter City.
