Now we are into the area quarter-final stage the early round spilt into secondary regions to North and South now ends, with the eight remaining clubs (nine in the north at the moment) all thrown in together in each area. Carlisle now one of four League One teams left in the northern section, with the two sides the Blues will want to avoid in the draw no doubt being Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday.

There is still an either or in the north at the moment though after Accrington Stanley's home game against Paul Simpson's Stockport County was called off well before Tuesday night due to the awaiting of a Football Association disciplinary hearing into Stanley's first round win over Tranmere. The Reds alleged in that match to have breached Football League regulations by playing Ray Putterill whilst he was under a suspension issued by Liverpool County FA.

Down in the southern section of the draw there are still a couple of big names left with Charlton Athletic and Plymouth Argyle both looking to put recent troubles aside in order to have a day out at Wembley. Those two teams no doubt hoping to get League Two opposition in either Southend United or Wycombe Wanderers when the cards are placed on the rack.
