As was the case with the Round One draw, in which the Blues receieved a bye, the second stage one will also be spilt into secondary regions to North and South, Carlisle once more in the North-West side of things, which on paper, with it containing only potential League Two opposition, looks much easier than the North-East. The Blues will need to make the most of that though as after this round, should United win through, the West and East regions are ended as we "go global" in the North.

The 16 clubs that were awarded a bye in the first round now join the competition, those bye teams being in the North - Bradford City, Burton Albion, Bury, Carlisle United, Crewe Alexandra, Huddersfield Town, Peterborough United and Stockport County, and in the South - Barnet, Bristol Rovers, Cheltenham Town, Colchester United, Hereford United, Milton Keynes Dons, Plymouth Argyle and Wycombe Wanderers.

The draw itself, which is missing last year's winners Southampton after they were defeated 3-0 by Swindon in midweek, takes place on Sky Sports's Soccer AM programme on the morning of Saturday 4th September with the games due to be played in the week commencing Monday 4th October.
