In League One as a whole in that period there were a bumper total of 717 player transactions, the total agents' fees for however many of those deals involved payments to an agent being £283,595. Just over half of the 24 clubs in League One committed to pay the services of a licensed agent in those six months.

The non-payers being Bristol Rovers, Crewe Alexandra, Hartlepool United, Hereford United, Leicester City, Leyton Orient, Northampton Town, Oldham Athletic, Scunthorpe United, Tranmere Rovers and Walsall. Crewe, Hartlepool, Hereford, Northampton, Scunthorpe and Tranmere having actually not used an agent during the whole of last season.

So, onto Carlisle's wheeling and dealings in that six month period, the Cumbrians with their hefty injury list were involved in 37 total player transactions. Those spilt into 13 new registrations or transfers, eight updated contracts, six cancelled contracts and ten loan signings. United's total spend of £10,135 on agents' fees is down £9,865 from the £20,000 spent in the six month period from July to December 2008.

Of the 13 clubs that did pay for the services of a licensed agent the Blues come out eighth in total spend. Brighton leading the way with a total of £69,200 with MK Dons next on £60,000, normal winners Leeds United dropping down to third on £30,000, while Yeovil Town did things much cheaper at the bottom with a spend of only £1,000.

As for the Football League as a whole the amount committed to agents has pleasingly fallen £2 million from £8.8m between July 2008 and June 2009 against £11.1m for the 2007/08 campaign. The split divisional figures being Championship - £7.5m (86%), League One - £1.1m (12%) and League Two just £0.2m (2%). Derby County easily the overall champions with a mammoth seasonal amount committed to agents of £1,042,000.
