1921 Ltd Board look to appoint a Fan Representative

Carlisle United AFC (1921) Limited wishes to appoint a non-executive director to act as a fan representative on the Board of Directors. The Board is responsible for managing the day-to-day aspects of running the football club and ensuring the club is ran in the best interest of the fans and the local community.
 
The non-executive fan representative director will be expected to attend board meetings at Brunton Park on a six-weekly basis, and to fully contribute to decision making and strategic development from a fan’s perspective. 
 
The successful candidate will ideally be in a position where their level of involvement can fully represent the views and opinions of the wider fan base and where they can relay the applicable information back to the supporters in an effective and timely manner.
 
The position is not remunerated, although the club will provide a season ticket for the current season and cover any pre-agreed expenses.
 
The position is to be held for one financial year, ending the following 30 June, and the successful applicant will be required to pass the Football League ‘Fit and Proper Persons Test’ before taking office.
 
Application process 
 
A panel consisting of Club officials and representatives from the community and business community, as well as media and supporter groups, will decide a shortlist of four candidates. These candidates will then be required to give a short profile for media use to enable fans to carry out a vote to decide their representative.
 
The four shortlisted candidates must be available on Wednesday 26 August to provide their profile (this can be done electronically).

Description of role and requirements:
 
- Appreciation of the role of a football club in the community.
 
- Knowledge of social media.
 
- Awareness of the commercial aspects connected to a football club.
 
- Knowledge of the local area and history of the club.
 
- Strong, creative ideas about how to build dialogue with Carlisle United fans across Cumbria and beyond.
 
- Awareness of the role of Carlisle United Official Supporters’ Club and Carlisle United Supporters’ Group, and ideas on how the Fan Representative will engage with these organisations.
 
- Plans around how to engage the next generation of Carlisle United fans, helping to grow the membership base of our Junior Blues.
 
- Appreciation that as the role is on the Club’s management board, there will be a degree of confidentiality and tact needed – the successful applicant will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement due to potentially sensitive information being discussed.
 
- Awareness that the role will be focused on the non-football operations of the club.
 
- Ability and gravitas to be able to represent the Club and the fan base at events and with the press.
 
It is envisaged the first meeting the successful applicant will be required to attend will be week commencing 14 September 2015. It is also anticipated that most meetings will be held on either Thursday or Friday, on an approximate six-weekly basis.
