FA Cup First Round Draw Update

Last updated : 26 October 2009 By Thetashkentterror

The FA Cup
Nearly all of the cup shocks came in the south of the country yesterday, with Ebbsfleet crashing out 3-0 at Bromley, Sutton United keeping their cup tradition going with a 3-1 win at Hampton & Richmond Borough, and Hayes & Yeading United losing 1-0 at home to Staines Town. Another Blue Square Premier side to bite the dust yesterday being Histon who were defeated 2-1 at Hinckley United.

It was a bad day for Cumbrian sides too as Workington went out 3-0 at home to Rushden & Diamonds, Kendal lost 1-0 at Nuneaton Town - a new club formed after the collapse of Nuneaton Borough, and Barrow were forced to go to a replay after drawing 1-1 at home to Chester - Carlisle's Andy Cook being an unused substitute in that game.

That draw at Holker Street was one of eight games that finished level of the 32 played, the scheduled replay date for those drawn matches being this coming Tuesday. The winning clubs though picked up £12,500 for their efforts yesterday and one of those successful sides was Andy Preece's Northwich Victoria who defeated FC United of Manchester 3-0 at home.

As for the upcoming first round proper draw this afternoon, we already know that Carlisle are the number ELEVEN ball. The draw coming up on ITV1 in a programme that starts at 1pm, and being made by England cricketer Jimmy Anderson and former Charlton Athletic and England left-back Chris Powell, the pair responsible for 80 balls which will see 40 ties played around the weekend of Saturday 7th November.
