Following Mark Shaw's shock departure last week, the club have revealed that Peter Duffield has taken charge of first-team matters. He will be assisted by Neil Tooth and Mick Godber as the Cannon Park outfit prepare for life in the UniBond League. A club spokesperson said: "The club would like to place on record their sincere thanks to all the applicants for the role, but decided that it would be a good move to promote from within.

"Peter Duffield was one of the most consistent players last season, missing only a handful of games, and with the support of Neil Tooth and Mick Godber will be relishing the chance to further improve the clubs status within the non-League Pyramid." Meanwhile, the club have also put on record their "sincere thanks" to Shaw, whose two seasons in charge at the club had culminated in promotion to the UniBond League.

Duffield, now 38 years old, joined Carlisle in March 2004 on a free transfer from Boston United, the Middlesbrough-born striker making ten appearances and scoring three goals for the Cumbrians before being released at the end of a disastrous campaign that saw the Blues relegated out of the Football League for the first time in their history.
