Dan Kirkup Bags United Pro Contract

The Hexham born 18-year old has been a permanent member in the youth and reserve teams this season, making around 55 appearances in a busy campaign. Kirky's contract was up in the air this summer, after the completion of his initial two year one, but he has now put any concerns about that to bed after inking a one year pro contract today.

He joins fellow youth-teamers in frontman Pete Ferris and goalkeeper Adam Bradley in moving in to the professional ranks as the Cumbrians look to get back to their good run of bringing youth-teamers through to the first-team in the 1990's. Kirkup isn't just a powerful centre-half but is also deadly at attacking set-pieces, scoring nine times this season, eight goals coming in the youths and one in the reserves successful Pontins League campaign.

If Simon Grand leaves the club in the summer, after being placed on an unofficial transfer list, then Kirkup could quickly find himself pushing for a place in the first-team sixteen next season, an interesting year awaits for Kirky, that's for sure.
