Cumberland Cup - Quarter Final Draw

Last updated : 21 December 2007 By Thetashkentterror
Following their 7-0 win at home to Kirkoswald in Round Three United have once more been drawn to play at Brunton Park as they now face Cleator Moor in the last eight of the competition. The sides met in the third round, at Celtic, back in 2005-06 when on a freezing cold evening in West Cumbria the Blues won 1-0 thanks to an extra-time strike from Pete Ferris.

To get to the quarter final stage this season Cleator Moor have already won 4-3 at Longtown in Round Two and then 3-1 at home to Silloth in the last sixteen. Celtic ply their trade in the Wearside Football League where they currently sit in mid-table thanks to a record of six wins, two draws and six defeats from their fourteen games played to date. Their goal difference of plus ten being slightly skewed by a 9-0 home hammering of second bottom Coxhoe Athletic.

Elsewhere in the draw Harraby Catholic Club have been handed the short straw of a long trip to Windscale while Wetheriggs and Penrith Town will fight out a local derby for a place in the final four. Ties are scheduled to be played on the first Saturday in March but the floodlight rule means Carlisle must play in midweek. With reserve and youth team fixture backlogs already though with the recent poor weather it's anybody's guess as to when the game will take place.
