The 24-year old, from Great Salkeld, has been training with United twice a week since the start of January and now has joined the Brunton Park ranks after taking up the offer of a 24-month contract from Blues boss Greg Abbott. Collin coming in in place of Chris Howarth who was released at the end of the season, youth team goalkeeper Alex Mitchell also having not been offered a professional deal.

Collin will work out his notice as a gardener and then be back in the full-time football ranks for the first time since he was let go by Newcastle United in the summer of 2004. Collin himself telling BBC Radio Cumbria the story of his career so far :

" I am just from Penrith, just down the road from here, so I am local to the area. I started off at Castletown Junior Football Club and moved to Blackburn Rovers for three years there. Then Newcastle signed me while I was still at school and once I finished my GCSEs I went full-time there for three years. Then I was at Workington for five years and then finally ended up here."

Although one thing that Adam does fail to mention is that he spent two loan spells at Doncaster and Oldham while at Newcastle, Collin being an unused substitute nine and seven times at the two clubs respectively in his periods away from St James' Park.

The 24-year old has been linked with numerous teams, Hereford, Hibs and Sheffield Wednesday in particular, in his five-year spell at Borough Park with the Reds as first choice goalkeeper, Carlisle themselves having initially been interested in 2007 under former boss Neil McDonald. Current manager Greg Abbott has this time made the plunge for the Blues though with Abbott commenting on the free transfer move to Brunton Park :

"If Adam proves that he is better than Ben (Williams) from day one and he looks like he is going to be the better keeper then he starts the season as number one choice. I think that is common sense but at the minute we are really pleased with Ben Williams and the end to the season that he had. It is up to Adam to come in and put as much pressure as he can on him, and if that starts in pre-season then fantastic, we have got real competition with the goalkeeping jersey."
