So the 24-year old goes back to the club from which Carlisle signed him on a two-year deal for a tribunal set fee, believed to be around the £50,000 mark, back in early June 2007. The Leeds-born striker having found the net for United just three times in 21 starts and 30 substitute appearances for the League One Cumbrians, that in stark contrast to the 65 goals he netted in 129 starts and 82 substitute appearances for the Shrimps in the Conference.

Carlton himself commenting to the official Morecambe website on the move :

"A few clubs were interested in signing me on loan but as soon as Morecambe were interested I knew this was where I wanted to be. I know the lads well and I know the style of play which is good for me and I am excited about playing for Morecambe in the Football League.

"It's also good to be back in familiar surroundings. I know the lads, I know the supporters and Morecambe is like a second home for me. On the field though I just want to play again and score regularly and take it from there. I'm excited about the thought of putting on a Morecambe shirt again on Saturday and hopefully we can pick up three points at Chester.''

While Shrimps boss Sammy McIlroy told The Visitor :

"I am delighted to have Danny back at Christie Park. We need cover up front at the moment because of our injury problems and Danny fits the bill perfectly. He knows the lads and will fit into our style of play almost immediately and he will also give the supporters a real lift too. I have been looking at bringing him back for a while and I am glad a deal has now been agreed."
