Carlisle KO Doncaster In Tight Encounter

Carlisle are at home for the first time in their fourth pre-season friendly of the 2011-12 campaign, a United XI also playing down at Penrith at the same time meaning that the Blues only have four substitutes on the bench. Doncaster meanwhile start the first-half with a relatively strong line-up, although their second-half eleven is made up of eight trialists and three young professionals. Carlisle attack the Waterworks End as they kick the game off in a diamond formation as follows :

3 mins - James Coppinger cross in, ball breaks to Kyle Bennett for 15-yard curler narrowly over crossbar.

13 mins - Billy Sharp pass to Coppinger, weak shot from edge of box straight at Collin.

16 mins - John Oster long range shot weak and straight at Collin.

18 mins - Zoko brought down by Simon Gillett, Welsh curls 25-yard free-kick left-footed but over top.

19 mins - Neil Sullivan collects deflected long range Michalik shot at second attempt.

25 mins - Simek cross in from right headed down by Welsh for Zoko, Zoko volley on goal easily held by Sullivan.

29 mins - Mustapha Dumbaya low cross in from right, good chance for Sharp but he clips a shot just wide from close range.

30 mins - Robson cross in from left, Curran heads against crossbar from five yards out.

31 mins - Curran to Zoko, Zoko right-footed shot from edge of box pushed away by Sullivan. Resultant McGovern corner in headed down by Zoko at back-post for Welsh close range half-volley that is cleared off the line by Oster, McGovern corner back in eventually breaks to Welsh for soft shot easily held by Sullivan.

37 mins - Sharp turns inside Michalik before hitting a low shot in that is straight at Collin.

43 mins - McGovern corner in, Sullivan flaps ball out straight to Thirlwell, goalward shot from Thirlwell comes off boot of Curran at close range and flies into Doncaster net, 1-0.

45 mins - Zoko cross in, Taiwo lays back to Simek for 25-yard drive wide of Sullivan's far-post.

 

 

46 mins - Doncaster change their entire side and only two of their eleven players now have numbers on the back of their shirts.

52 mins - Rovers corner in, headed wide by a Doncaster head in the middle of the box.

55 mins - Rowan Vine fouled by O'Halloran, James Baxendale free-kick in headed up in the air twice by a Doncaster player for an easy Collin catch.

62 mins - United make a triple substitution as Stephen O'Halloran, Paul Thirlwell and Francois Zoko all come off to be replaced by Peter Murphy, James Berrett and Rory Loy respectively.

67 mins - Michalik shot from 40 yards out flies well over the top of the Rovers crossbar.

71 mins - A Doncaster player cuts in from the left before scuffing a weak shot straight at Collin from the edge of the box.

73 mins - Free-kick to Carlisle following a foul on Simek, Robson shot from set-piece almost hits the corner flag over on the far side of the pitch.
