Carlisle Kick-Off At Kendal

Last updated : 15 July 2012 By Thetashkentterror

And unsually it was a dry evening too as the two teams ran onto a pitch that was a little long grass-wise and made quick passing difficult at times. The Blues without four of their current professionals with Rory Loy still working his way back to full fitness, Jon-Paul McGovern suffering from a suspected hernia problem, Peter Murphy back in Ireland and David Symington scheduled to play for the youth team at Cleator Moor Celtic on Saturday.

With goalkeeper Aaran Taylor playing for Workington in midweek, who are also away to Whitehaven this weekend, the four other named trialists in right-back Harrison Blakey, Italian left-back Alessio Bugno, attacking midfielder Dale Hopson and left-back Jonathan Meades played a part for Carlisle this evening, while they were also joined by a new face in Ross Lindsay who has been training with United this week.

The 18-year old left-footed central midfielder, who has already spent time this pre-season with Yeovil Town, having featured for St Mirren in their schoolboy ranks before moving on to Kilmarnock. Lindsay released this summer though after three years at Rugby Park, where he made no first team appearances. The addition of Lindsay in the United ranks meaning that the Blues lined up in the opening period as follows:

Lee Miller

Matt Robson                 -       Danny Cadamarteri

Dale Hopson

Ross Lindsay         -               Josh Todd

Alessio Bugno - Paul Thirlwell - Danny Livesey - Frank Simek

Mark Gillespie

2 mins - Hopson played through by Lindsay, shoots straight at goalkeeper Welsby from 15 yards.

8 mins - Bugno foul on Kenworthy just outside Carlisle 'D', Farrell hammers free-kick in goalwards to bring a good save out of Gillespie.

15 mins - Williams breaks into the box through a neat one-two with Kenworthy, Gillespie makes a sharp stop with his feet after a 12-yard strike by Williams.

19 mins - Cadamarteri fouled on right wing, Hopson swings free-kick in, Miller 8 yards out heads back across goal but wide of near-post.

21 mins - foul on Cadamarteri by Alexander 30 yards out, Robson thumps free-kick wide of Welsby's right-hand upright.

23 mins - Hopson corner in, Cadamarteri free header 8 yards out tipped over by Welsby. Hopson corner in, Cadamarteri again unmarked 8 yards out, header on goal parried away by Welsby.

24 mins - Leadbetter drive from 20 yards out rises away over Gillespie's crossbar.

25 mins - Leadbetter plays Williams into Carlisle area, Williams toe-poked shot from 12 yards out saved by Gillespie.

34 mins - Bugno pass to Cadamarteri breaking down the left, cross into box, Miller easy header into net from 5 yards out, 1-0.

36 mins - Kenworthy pass to Leadbetter, 15 yard strike on the angle well parried aside by Gillespie diving away to his left.

38 mins - Kenworthy to Leadbetter once more, 20 yard shot brings another smart stop out of Gillespie.

41 mins - Hopson to Bugno down left, cuts inside, doesn't fancy shot with weaker right foot but eventually takes it on from 12 yards out sliding it just wide of Welsby's far-post.

42 mins - Bugno pass to Todd, 20 yard drive deflects behind off Wisdom for a Hopson corner which produces nothing for United.

43 mins - Cadamarteri pass through for Robson who looks inches offside, Robson races into box before steadying himself and cracking a 12 yard effort across Welsby and into the net via the inside of the back-stick, 2-0.

Kendal make two changes during the interval as Dootson replaces Welsby in goal and Malin comes on for Alexander. Carlisle meanwhile field a completely different eleven which lines up as follows:

Mark Beck

Andy Welsh             -         Paddy Madden

James Berrett        -             Liam Noble

Chris Chantler

Jonathan Meades - Brad Potts - Mike Edwards - Harrison Blakey

Adam Collin

48 mins - United playing up the slope this half, Berrett corner in, Edwards header from 6 yards out over top.

49 mins - Berrett shot from 18 yards out pings away off inside of left-hand post with goalkeeper Dootson well beaten.

50 mins - Madden drive from 20 yards out runs straight into gloves of Welsby.

53 mins - Madden cross in from right, Welsh under pressure volleys back across goal and wide from 10 yards out.

57 mins - Madden effort on goal from 25 yards out flies well over top.

61 mins - Randall off and Wright on for Kendal. Madden and Welsh swap flanks for a short spell for United.

63 mins - Welsh ball to far-post from right, Madden heads back, Berrett sends a half-volley over the angle from the edge of the penalty area.

64 mins - Welsh cross in, Madden header over Welsby's crossbar from 6 yards out.

65 mins - Welsh sends Madden away over the top down the right-hand channel, shot from 15 yards out sliced wide of near-post.

65 mins - Leigh off and Duggan on for Kendal before goal-kick is taken.

67 mins - Welsh short corner to Noble, effort on goal by Noble from 18 yards out looks like a real tester before it deflects over off the head of Tucker. Welsh corner in, Madden header from 5 yards out hits underside of crossbar, Beck then nods in the rebound from close range after the ball bounces down and back up again, 3-0.

70 mins - Leadbetter tries an awkward looking 20 yard lob over Collin on the half-volley, effort drifts harmlessly over the bar.

71 mins - Berrett latches onto a loose ball, shot from 15 yards out slides across goal and wide of the target.

76 mins - Welsh cut-back to Beck 8 yards out, but Beck's effort from there is blazed miles over.

76 mins - During the break in play Kendal make four substitutions. Farrell off and KIlifin on. Kenworthy off and Knowles on. Williams off and Corless on. Leadbetter off and Barron on.

87 mins - Welsh cross in from the left, Beck in aerial tussle with Joseph sees 8 yard header loop goalwards for Dootson to tip over the top for a corner which produces nothing for Carlisle.

So, the first run-out of a new season comes and goes for United with everyone who played looking to come out injury-free. Of the five trialists, Bugno had a reasonable 45 minutes as did Hopson and Lindsay, the problem for Bugno and Lindsay being that they play in a much more competitive area of the park for Carlisle than Hopson does. In the second-half full-backs Blakey and Meades had little to do defensively with United well on top, but Blakey looked the more attacking-minded one of the two
