Carlisle Get Wetheriggs Away In Cumberland Cup - Carlisle United FC

Carlisle last faced Wetheriggs United in this competition as far back as March 2007, the Blues winning 5-0 at home to the Penrith based side in the semi-final that season, the Carlisle goals that Tuesday evening all coming in the last half hour of the match from Shaun Vipond (2), Steven Hindmarch (2) and Chris Lumsdon.

Wetheriggs have made it through to the round three stage, where the Blues waited after having a bye to that round, by defeating West Cumbrian outfit Frizington White Star 4-2 away in their opening game in the competition. Another away tie coming in round two as Wetheriggs won once more on the road, this time 2-0 at Silloth.

No doubt it will be Carlisle's youth team that feature heavily again for the Blues, so hopefully their scheduled first round FA Youth Cup tie at Accrington Stanley on Wednesday night won't be rained off or we could be facing an early season fixture backlog. A potential second round FA Youth Cup tie and this Cumberland Cup game against Wetheriggs both needing to be fitted into the calendar by early December at the very latest.
