Carlisle Face Wetheriggs In Cumberland Cup

Last updated : 29 September 2011 By Thetashkentterror

So, there is just one cup competition left that, as holders, United can defend successfully this season and the draw for the first and second rounds of that has been made recently, the Blues one of many clubs to receive a bye at the first stage of the Cumberland Cup, and then bagging a home tie in the second round against Wetheriggs United. The Penrith based side currently sitting in third place in Divison One of the Westmorland Association Football League.

The last time that Carlisle met Wetheriggs in the Cumberland Cup came in the 2009-10 season, when the Blues fell at their opening hurdle, in the third round of the competition, on the back of a 2-1 defeat, with Manny Richardson scoring the only Carlisle goal in the game. This season though, like last year, the Blues will need to make it through five ties to lift the trophy, with their opening match likely to come up on on an October midweek evening at Brunton Park.
