Left-back Darren Campion
The Birmingham-born defender originally signed for Carlisle in December 2007 on a contract until the end of the season, the 21-year old then getting a further 12 months on his deal during the summer. Despite being at Brunton Park for a year though Campion has so far only made three starts and one substitute appearance in United colours, Reds boss Darren Edmondson commenting on the one-month loan capture of the left-back :

" I am hoping that he (Darren Campion) is going to be an excellent signing. It is literally just for the month to cover the absence of Lee Andrews who is having a cartilage operation. I know that Darren had turned down Barrow a couple of weeks ago so I am delighted to get hold of his services.

" He is someone that I have been talking to Greg about before he got the job, and obviously in the last week or so about if we could start to involve him in our squad and our plans. So again it is testament to the lad that he wants to drop down a few levels and come and play for us. It shows that he is keen and eager and it says a lot about him. "

Meanwhile United boss Greg Abbott said about Campion's move :

" We have got Michael Liddle in at the club at the minute from Sunderland and we have got Evan Horwood behind him, so obviously Darren (Campion) as a left-back is going to find his chances limited. The loan system is sometimes good because it gives players the chance to get games at a good and competitive level.

" So Darren has obviously seen that as well and he has decided to get his games in the next month. It is a lot better playing games like that than it is training and playing in our reserves, so we are all comfortable with that one.

" A long-term future at Carlisle is up to Darren, obviously we have got two left-backs at the moment. He has got to go to Workington, do what he has to do and then come back and prove to everybody that he is worthy of a place at the club. There are no guarantees yes and there are no guarantees no, again that is all down to Darren and the way that he performs between now and the end of the season. "
