United's scheduled League Two clash at York Street tonight has been postponed due to the bad winter weather currently affecting the Eastern side of England. Both the pitch and parts of the terracing are covered in two inches of snow, plus the Lincolnshire Police are advising against driving unless it is absolutely necessary, so calling the game off was an easy decision for tonight's scheduled fourth official from Lincoln, Wayne McIntosh, to make.

After only playing against Darlington two days ago though the cancellation of the game will give the Cumbrians more time to prepare, and rest their legs, for the visit of Rochdale to Brunton Park in a 2pm kick-off on New Year's Eve.

The Dale's home clash with Bury tonight looks very likely to go ahead following the covering of the pitch to keep the frost out. That will mean them playing an energy-sapping three games in six days when they face the Blues on the last day of 2005.

It also means however that Rochdale's top scorer Grant Holt will have served out his three-match suspension for a sending-off on the 10th of December at Wycombe and should be fit and raring to go as he prepares to face his home-city club in the eagerly awaited clash.

The weather in Cumbria is forecast to be milder by Friday evening and with no snow predicted and the pitch covers on the Brunton Park pitch to keep out the frost it looks very hopeful that the Rochdale match will go ahead as planned.
