United attack the Waterworks End in the first-half and it's a cagey start with no clear-cut chances and Middlesbrough defending quite deep.

mins - Faris Haroun keen to go off with a groin problem for the visitors, and gets his wish as he heads off down the tunnel to be replaced shortly afterwards by Surinam-born trialist Romeo Castelen.

mins - Castelen pounces on a loose ball in the United box but he blazes it miles over the top for a direct hit on the sign on the front of the Warwick Road End roof.

mins - Marvin Emnes forces a good save out of Gillespie with an 18-yard strike.

mins - Nicky Bailey shot from 20 yards out deflects behind off Edwards for a corner. Kevin Thomson sends the ball in which is cleared out by Peter Murphy and drops to the feet of Curtis Main just outside the Carlisle box, but his shot from there whistles narrowly wide of the target.

mins - Ball breaks from a deflected Castelen shot straight to Main in the left-hand channel 12 yards out. Faced by Mark Gillespie and Brad Potts he seems to take too long to work a shooting angle only to then chip a lovely finish over Edwards and Murphy near the goal-line and into the net via a slight touch off the crossbar, 0-1.

mins - Lee Miller cross-chip from 20 yardsw out on the right parried away from danger by Swiss trialist goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler.

- Main powerful shot from the Carlisle 'D' which brings a strong stop from Gillespie.

mins - Welsh cross in from the right, Miller header 12 yards out flashes across goal and goes well wide of Leutwiler's right-hand post.

mins - Thomson breaks into the left of the United box at pace, but Gillespie does well with his legs to save Thomson's low 12-yard drive.

mins - Middlesbrough make one change during the break as Seb Hines goes off with a slight knock and is replaced by Adam Jackson.

mins - Bailey shot from distance disappears away high and wide of the target.

mins - United work a short corner from Welsh to Berrett for a cross into the middle of the Boro box which Miller flick heads into the far corner of the visitors net, 1-1.

mins - Middlesbrough make three changes in personnel. Brazilian trialists Carlos Correa and Dudu Favretto on for Thomson and Stephen McManus respectively, while Cameron Park replaces Main. McManus takes over the Boro captain's armband from Thomson.

mins - United then make three changes themselves in straight swaps formation-wise as Danny Livesey, Paul Thirlwell and trialist Ryan Donaldson come on for Edwards, Chantler and Welsh respectively.

mins - Noble low drive from 22 yards out brings a relatively comfortable save out of Leutwiler.

mins - Pacey and tricky run down the left by Emnes, into the box past Potts, low cut-back from by-line side-footed home by Park under the body of Gillespie from eight yards out, 1-2.

mins - Neat approach work from Donaldson and Miller, but Berrett doesn't get hold of a half-volley from the edge of the box and it's an easy save for Leutwiler.

mins - Early substitute Castelen gets replaced himself as he goes off and Ryan Brobbel comes on.

mins - Park ball through for Emnes at pace, good block with his legs by Gillespie on Park's low 20-yard drive.

mins - A change for either side as Dale Hopson replaces Robson for Carlisle and Matthew Dolan comes on for Bailey for Boro.

mins - Former United trialist Stuart Parnaby is replaced at right-back for the visitors by Kyle Oliver.

mins - The final substitution of the night comes for Carlisle as Mark Beck replaces Miller upfront. Thirlwell takes over the captain's armband from Miller.

mins - Berrett corner in, Murphy totally unmarked eight yards out heads it powerfully but narrowly over the top.

mins - Bugno ball in from the left, half-volleyed with the inside of his right boot wastefully across goal and well wide of the far-post by Hopson ten yards out.

mins - Low Beck drive from the edge of the box well pushed behind by Leutwiler away to his right. Berrett corner in, Beck header ten yards out drops just wide of the Boro right-hand post.
