Blues Win Contract D-Day 3-2

Midfielder James Berrett and defenders Peter Murphy and Frank Simek being the trio who look like they will plying their trade in a Carlisle shirt next season, while on the other side of the coin defender Lubomir Michalik and midfielder Tom Taiwo have set their sights away from Cumbria. That then leaving United at five for and three against with the earlier that news Mark Gillespie and Danny Livesey penned new deals sitting alongside the rejection of a new Brunton Park contract by Francois Zoko.

No length of deal has been mentioned yet that Berrett, Murphy and Simek have indicated they will sign, with firstly 23-year old central midfielder Berrett having made 94 appearances while scoring 20 goals since he joined the Cumbrians from Huddersfield two years ago. Right-back Simek, 27, also having linked up with Carlisle in the summer of 2010, with the American still looking for his first goal having made 75 appearances in a United shirt.

Finally left-sided 31-year old defender Murphy now enters his eleventh season at Brunton Park, the Dubliner making over 450 appearances and scoring 23 goals in his lengthy time in Cumbria since he joined the club from Blackburn way back in 2001. Those then, along with Gillespie and Livesey are five of the original eight out of contract players who were offered new deals with United, while the other three are moving on to pastures new.

The news on frontman Francois Zoko leaving came five days ago now while firstly joining him out of the exit door is 28-year centre-half Lubomir Michalik who made 70 appearances and scored just two goals with the Blues. The Slovakian, having joined Carlisle on a six-month loan deal from Leeds in August 2010, heading back to Elland Road before quickly joining up again with the Cumbrians on an 18-month contract having had his deal with the Whites cancelled by mutual consent.

Central midfielder Tom Taiwo meanwhile, now aged 22, is one player that Carlise may receive a compensation fee for depending on what contract he was offered. Leeds-born Taiwo in the same boat as Michalik signing-wise, although his original loan deal ran to January 2010 from Chelsea, with the combative player then penning a two and a year half deal with United, where he has made 131 appearances and scored six goals.
